Alexa Sparky Firefox Add-On

Alexa have made a move to make their stats counter more reliable by adding Firefox into the equation. This will give Alexa a wider reach across the web, giving it more users and thus more reliability for lower ranking websites. Up until now, any websites ranked below 10,000 could not be reliably tracked by this toolbar, as too few of the Alexa population could be  accounted toward the ‘general’ population.

Alexa released their new ’sparky’ add-on for Firefox browsers on the 16th of July, being their 10 year anniversary. The new toolbar is inserted into the lower stats bar rather than a toolbar up top. It is very compact and provides quick stats without taking up extra browser space.

A four month rank trend (sparkline) is displayed along with the website rank number and a basic reach indicator.

I believe that this is a step in the right direction for Alexa, and will hopefully make their tool more reliable as it will reach more of the general public.
